There are certainly schools that hold anti-racist curricula and design at the heart of their school; and have seen amazing outcomes as a result. Most public schools – charter or otherwise – however, are not subject experts and need support. To confront and root out racism, it takes more than a simple lesson series.
We strongly encourage all leaders in our sector to leverage new resources and approaches to respond with the resolve, empathy and unity that are hallmarks of our movement. For our students of color, this is an opportunity to create a school that is safer and more conducive to their success. For our white students, we must actively teach implicit bias, privilege, and give them the tools to identify and fight against racism. We hope these resources help you begin your journey or support one you and your school has already started.
