Funding Stability for ALL Students

Urge your Legislator to protect public schools from pandemic funding cuts and support funding stability for ALL students!

Governor Newsom has proposed fiscal protections for classroom-based charter schools against funding cuts this year based on increased student absences due to COVID. The Legislature is making final decisions about the state budget before June 15. CCSA’s top budget priority this year is to provide all public school students, including those in nonclassroom-based charter schools, hold harmless protection from the funding cuts that will occur due to the unexpected lower attendance during this school year and in the future. School districts already have this protection!

While we are appreciative of Governor’s proposal to extend protections to classroom-based charter schools for this year, the impact of the pandemic has been devastating on student learning, social skills and mental health in all schools, and will likely have ongoing impact. The exclusion of nonclassroom-based schools will adversely impact schools which serve some of our most vulnerable students, who are juggling home, work, and school obligations.  This year, more than ever, ALL students need more support -- not a reduction in funding to their schools!

Act now to demand that legislators support the Governor’s proposed fiscal protections for classroom-based schools, and to extend it to nonclassroom-based charter schools for ALL public school students for the future.
