Thanks to your tireless advocacy, AB 1316 was placed in the legislature’s inactive file on June 3, in effect DEFEATING the bill! CCSA is proud to see the strength of our community throughout this campaign, and we are grateful for all the families, educators, and students who raised their voices to ensure that this terrible bill would not become law. In the end, this is what you all accomplished:
- More than 5,000 phone calls were made to legislative offices to oppose the bill.
- Constituents held meetings with lawmakers so they could hear directly from the people who would be affected by this bill.
- Columns and Letters to the Editor were written by charter community members and appeared in newspapers across the state.
- Community groups mobilized online in opposition. Countless posts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram highlighted the students and families the bill would hurt. Parents also told the stories of the positive impacts charter public schools made in their kids’ lives through Facebook Live events.
Though we will remain vigilant in our efforts to ensure equal and adequate funding as well as leveling the playing field for ALL public schools in accountability measures, we hope you will join us in celebrating the fruit of our collective labor and the power of charter school advocates across California.
