We recognize the shared uncertainties and anxieties about how to prepare for the likely impact of increased immigration enforcement in our school communities as the incoming Presidential Administration has indicated it will do. As Californians, we value the contributions of our vibrant immigrant communities, and we work to ensure that our schools are safe, affirming, and supportive places of learning for all, regardless of immigration status, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, gender expression or LGBTQIA+ status or disability. As charter public schools, our shared mission drives us to work with special urgency for those most in need of support, and in alignment with our values, which includes the protection of the vulnerable.

CCSA works with charter schools across California to ensure that all students may access high-quality public-school options. Charter schools offer a welcoming, safe space for all students where diverse perspectives are respected and student safety--both physically and emotionally--remains the top priority.

To that end, we provide access here to resources to help schools address the needs of their communities related to immigration, including the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, protections for LGBTQ youth, and ways to protect other civil rights at public schools. We have been here before. In 2017, CCSA provided its member schools with information, guidance and networking opportunities for schools facing enforcement actions at the drop-off lines, information to share with parents, and emerging partnerships with education agencies in each region to support the disruptions to families, students, and staff – especially at that time, the thousands of DACA teachers our public charter schools employ. We will do it again.

Please note that these resources do not indicate an endorsement of a particular political viewpoint; they are meant to help charter public schools address questions and concerns within their respective school communities. These resources will be updated as more become available.
