These lawmakers understand what’s at stake. AB 84 is a misguided proposal that would defund successful charter schools by stripping their funding, levying oversight fees, and forcing the closure of schools that thousands of students rely on. It targets schools that offer flexible, personalized learning options — the very models that serve students recovering from trauma, experiencing homelessness, or facing serious medical challenges.

AB 84 also reopens old policy fights by imposing unnecessary credentialing mandates and undermining local school oversight, especially in small and rural communities. It pushes decisions away from families and into the hands of distant bureaucracies.

This is not reform — it’s a political overreach that would rob students of the opportunities they deserve. By opposing AB 84, these legislators are rejecting an unfair, unproven approach and standing up for high-quality, student-centered learning options.

Their leadership gives hope to thousands of families who want stability and choice in their public education. We thank these Assemblymembers for recognizing that California students deserve more opportunity — not less.

Their voices are helping to protect vital school models that serve our most vulnerable youth, and we are proud to stand with them.
