High performing public schools in California, and the families they serve, are facing a threat like never before.
Right now, Sacramento politicians in both the Assembly and Senate are working to pass bills that would have the collective effect of shutting down public schools with a proven track record of success and trapping low-income students in failing schools.
The most poisonous of these bills is the one being proposed by Senator Maria Elena Durazo, SB 756. This bill would ban new charter public schools until 2024!
For years to come, tens of thousands of our state’s most vulnerable students would be denied the opportunity to attend quality public schools that best meet their needs and put them on the path to a brighter future.
Sen. Durazo is shamefully putting politics ahead of kids. Californians of all backgrounds must speak out against this divisive bill that will do lasting harm to students in our state. Before the Senate Education Committee holds a hearing on this bill on Wednesday, April 24, make your voice heard, here.
