This year, the California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) identified 357 charter public schools across the state that are outperforming regional averages on the 2025 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). These campuses are CCSA member schools where student success is soaring — so it seems only fitting that we’re recognizing them as California’s Charter “Super Schools.”
From Los Angeles to the Bay Area and up through the Central Valley, this year’s Super Schools are proving that success isn’t determined by ZIP code or background. Whether serving English learners, low-income families, or students of color, they’re helping kids achieve more than ever.
Their stories highlight what’s possible when public education is flexible, community-driven, and centered on students.
Los Angeles Super Schools
Out of the 357 CCSA member schools across the state that are outperforming regional averages, the vast majority – 201 – are located in Los Angeles County. In addition, nearly 100 charter schools in the City of Los Angeles had students outperforming county averages for low-income students.
- 20 schools rank in the top 10% statewide with low-income students
- Six schools rank in the top 5% statewide with low-income students
One standout is Libertas College Preparatory Charter, where African American, Hispanic, and students with disabilities all scored above regional averages. Learn how Libertas College Prep is advancing academic excellence by learning about The Libertas Difference.
Another standout is San Jose Charter Academy in West Covina, where 68% of Hispanic students met or exceeded standards in English. Educators and families say the San Jose Charter Academy's 8 Core Values collectively serve as the foundation for deep learning and mutual respect to unfold in the classroom.
Southern California
In Southern California, from San Diego and Imperial up through San Bernardino, over 40 charter schools outperformed county averages with their Hispanic students.
Three SoCal charters have Hispanic students scoring in the top 5% statewide, including LaVerne Elementary Prep, where 63% of Hispanic students met or exceeded standards in both English and Math. Learn how LaVerne's school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) initiative is empowering students to become lifelong learners and to achieve excellence in all areas of their lives.
Bay Area Super Schools
More than two dozen Bay Area charters outperformed their counties with Black/African American students. Among the most successful are located in Oakland: AIMS Public Charter II and Downtown Charter Academy.
Both campuses placed in the top 5% statewide, reflecting a deep commitment to equity and excellence. To learn more about AIMS' incredibly diverse and successful community of scholars, click its Data at a Glance.
