Passing Extreme Bill was about Politics, not Strengthening Public Education

By California Charter Schools Association

“This is about public education. About trying to see what is working and what is not working.”

---Senator Maria Elena Durazo, author of SB 756

But that’s not what passing SB 756 out of the Senate Education Committee yesterday was really about. It was about catering to the divisive and extreme policy wishes of the California Teachers Association (CTA) that puts politics ahead of kids.

If the Senate Education Committee really wanted to get to the bottom of what’s working in our state’s public education system, they would have highlighted the incredible results charter public schools are achieving with our state’s most vulnerable students. They would have noted how these high-performing public schools are dramatically closing the achievement gap and reshaping the futures of students who attend them.

But all of this overwhelming evidence was simply ignored by Sacramento politicians like Sens. Durazo, Richard Pan, Mike McGuire and Connie Leyva. With their votes, they showed that they are much more committed to politics than kids in their districts and throughout our state.
