At all levels of K-12 public education in California, charter public schools help make up the top 10 schools, according to Niche, a review and search platform for education.
The platform’s 2022 rankings grade schools based on key academic data from the U.S. Department of Education. But as Niche likes to point out, “a school is more than a collection of stats.” Beyond academic achievement, the site also uses reviews from students, parents, and teachers, and looks at additional categories such as diversity, clubs and activities, and resources and facilities, to assess the quality of schools.
Here’s a look at the charter schools who finished in the top 10 statewide at the elementary, middle, and high school levels:
Best Public Elementary Schools
Best Public Middle Schools
- Number Three: Granada Hills Charter
- Number Four: Preuss School UCSD (San Diego)
- Number Eight: Yu Ming Charter School
- Number 10: University Preparatory (Redding)
Best Public High Schools
We want to congratulate each of these schools on their strong showing—and the many other charter schools ranking in the top tier of schools in their respective communities. It’s great to see charter schools continue to stand out in national rankings: Earlier this year, charter schools made up 30 percent of California’s top 100 high schools, per the U.S. News and World Report’s Best High School rankings.
